Join us for lunch during Women’s History Month! The State Library and State Archives of North Carolina are presenting a lunch and learn series each Tuesday at noon starting March 9. Click on a date listed below to learn more or sign up to participate.

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s copy of its original Bill of Rights will be displayed for a limited time in a lobby case at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, June 29 through July 7.

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed October 2019 as Archives Month in North Carolina, recognizing those who preserve and provide access to public records and archival materials in North Carolina’s archive repositories throughout the state.
 
The State Archives of North Carolina in Raleigh houses over a hundred million items relating to the development and culture of the state—the earliest piece in the collection is a map dating to 1584.

A map used as evidence in the famous 1867 murder trial of Tom Dula, the earliest will known to exist in North Carolina, and audio recordings of World War I soldiers’ oral histories are some of the highlights to be found in Treasures of Carolina: Stories from the State Archives, a traveling exhibition set to open Saturday, Sept. 1st, at the Mountain Gateway Museum & Heritage Center in Old Fort.

Genealogy research is a complex subject that involves finding the right resources, keen detective work, and enduring patience.

A good place to begin or sharpen your research skills is the 2018 North Carolina Genealogical Society Speakers Forum, Saturday, June 23, 8:25 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the State Archives/State Library building, 109 E. Jones St., Raleigh. This day-long forum will feature presentations across three concurrent sessions focusing on case studies, methodology, ethnic research, organization, online resources, and writing.

Alamance Community College is planning a host of activities on March 29 to coincide with the centennial of the end of World War I—specifically North Carolina’s role in the conflict—with an exhibit and other activities titled “North Carolina in the Great War.” The public is invited to this free event on the Carrington-Scott main campus in Haw River from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
