During COVID-19 in 2021, the archives started expanding their hours with precautions. Some of these included wearing face masks, easy access to hand sanitizers, and plexiglass barriers. Appointments were no longer required. This was implemented across all three archives sites. Researchers were also asked to wear masks and not visit if sick.
On May 14, 2021, Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order lifting face coverings and other emergency restrictions after COVID-19. For the three archives, hours will still be limited, appointments are still encouraged to ensure enough staff, plexiglass barriers and hand sanitizer will remain, face masks are no longer required but strongly encouraged.
