Venture to the 1860s gallery in The Story of North Carolina at the North Carolina Museum of History to view the state’s original 1868 Constitution, the first to grant rights and privileges to emancipated former slaves. The document will be on exhibit beginning January 26 through April 29.

State Archives staff members from Special Collections will have a booth at the 17th Annual African American Cultural Celebration. Fran Tracy-Walls (Private Manuscripts Archivist) and Matthew Peek (Military Collection Archivist) will be on hand to discuss African American collections available at the State Archives and how individuals might donate their collections or participate in the Military Collection’s Veterans’ Oral History Program. Selected images from both collections will be on display.
