Access and Location

The State Records Center (SRC) is located at 215 North Blount Street in the state government complex in downtown Raleigh. In addition to containing offices for the Government Records Branch, it was designed and equipped specifically for the storage of inactive governmental records. The branch also maintains other off-site records storage facilities.

In accordance with the NC Administrative Code, entry and access to the SRC building is limited to persons on official business. All visitors are required to provide identification (i.e., state government photo ID or driver's license) for inclusion in the SRC's Patron Registration database and must wear a "visitor" badge when in the building. Access by persons not on official business may be denied. Visitors must be escorted by branch staff when in the records storage areas or other areas beyond the administrative offices.

The SRC is located on the corner of Blount and Lane streets, directly behind the State Archives/State Library Building. The front door for the SRC faces the front door of the Governor's Mansion; the SRC's loading dock is on the side of the building facing Lane Street.

Parking and Public Transit

Visitors to the State Records Center may park in one of three state government visitors' parking facilities:

Visitor Lot #1 (109 E. Jones Street), accessible from Jones or Edenton Streets.

Visitor Lot #3 (120 W. Edenton St), accessible from Salisbury Street.

Visitor Lot #2 (329 North Salisbury Street, ground level of Parking Lot 75), accessible from Salisbury and McDowell Streets.

See the state parking maps from the North Carolina Department of Administration for more information about these parking lots and decks.

Please note that towing is enforced for all numbered spaces. There is a nominal fee for visitor parking.

On The Street Parking

Time-limited free on the street parking is available within a short walking distance of the State Records Center, most notably the one hour free parking available on the 100 block of Jones Street. On the street parking is also available for $1.00 per hour, with a 2 hour maximum, on the 200 block of Blount St.

Bus Access

The R-LINE, a free circulator bus service, is also available to visitors to downtown Raleigh. For more information on bus stops and pick-up times, consult the R-Line website.
