British Records: Foreign Office

Embassy and Consular Archives -- United States of America, Correspondence (copies)

The Foreign Office was the department of the British Government conducting relations with foreign states, including the United States after 1783. The series FO 115 is comprised of miscellaneous  correspondence relating to the United States. Topics relating to North Carolina concern debts owed British merchants, trade and shipping.

The Foreign Office was the department of the British Government conducting relations with foreign states, including the United States  after 1783. The series FO 83 is comprised of miscellaneous correspondence, and the main topic discussed in the items selected relates to permissions being granted Americans to search the archives of the Foreign Office.

United States of America, General Correspondence, Series I (microfilm and copies)

The Foreign Office was the department of the British Government conducting relations with foreign states, including the United States after 1783. The series FO 4 is comprised of correspondence, returns, accounts, and reports sent to the Foreign Office from ambassadors and others in the United States. The series FO 5 mainly comprises letters to the Foreign  Secretary and others. Topics relating to North Carolina include among others impressment of North Carolina sailors by the Royal Navy, trade, debts owed British merchants, war between Britain and France, British  vice consular posts in North Carolina.
