A non-refundable fee of $2.00 for each copy must accompany requests for academic transcripts. The fee is $2.00 per copy; requests for multiple copies should include payments in increments of $2.00 (i.e., $4.00 for two copies, etc.). The State Archives cannot accept estimated payments or payments in excess of the correct fee. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Each state agency has signed a customized document that indicates with which of the 16 functions that agency engages. The spreadsheet summarizes the responsibilities of state agencies, grouped into the three branches of state government as well as independent commissions, occupational licensing boards and commissions, and other state agencies.

A selection of county records container lists are available in PDF format. As records series are arranged and described, additional container lists will become available. Estate records are legal documentation of the disposition of a deceased person’s property sometimes including records of orphans and legal proceedings that occur after an estate is closed.

Miscellaneous Records contains a variety of records including those that do not fall easily into the main record categories as well as those that were in too small of a quantity to be catalogued separately. Examples are records of slaves and free persons of color; bills of sale; promissory notes; canal and drainage records; shipping and fishing records; mill records; mining records; timber records; powers of attorney; grand jury records; and witness tickets. Many box and volume titles may be peculiar to one or two counties.
